Install Arch Linux on a ThinkPad T500

Everything I use works fine without any tinkering.

Works out of the box

  • Wireless (Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300). Tested with WEP and WPA.
  • Integrated graphics card (Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07))
  • Touchpad (and the little red joystick thing on the keyboard)
  • Optical drive
  • Audio output
  • Volume control buttons (including mute—I had issues with that in the past on Ubuntu)
  • Screen brightness controls and keyboard light
  • Suspend to RAM

Not tested

  • Bluetooth (ID 0a5c:2145 Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate II)
  • Multiple monitors
  • Discrete graphics card
  • Audio input
  • Video input (ID 17ef:4807 Lenovo UVC Camera)
  • Card reader (SD, MMC, etc.)
  • Suspend to disk (hibernate)

Note about switchable graphics

Before installing, I disabled switchable graphics in the BIOS (I selected integrated graphics). This may not be necessary, but that's just the way I had it because older versions of Ubuntu didn't work with switchable graphics enabled.
