ATI Rage Mobility M or M1

This is a ATI video adapter

The only difference between the M and M1 model is the amount of video memory
M has 4MB, M1 has 8MB

Features

  • Chipset: ATI Rage Pro
  • PCI ID: 1002:4c4d
  • AGP 2X
  • 4 or 8MB SGRAM video memory

Linux X.Org driver

This adapter is supported by recent versions of the 'ati' driver as found in X.Org and XFree86.

ThinkPad LCD

Display on the internal LCD works as long as you set the monitor settings correct.

External VGA port

The external VGA port can be enabled in /etc/X11/xorg.conf via

Option "crt_display" "On"

Dualhead seems not to be supported, yet.

Accelerated Graphics

4MB is not sufficient RAM for 3D-acceleration at 16 bit colour. 8 bit colour is too unpleasant to contemplate! So, most X20s don't (effectively) have 3D.

SVideo port

SVideo out is supported by the ati.2 driver from the GATOS project.
Read here how to set it up.

Proprietary ATI driver

This chip is not supported by the proprietary ATI driver.

Linux kernel Framebuffer driver

A framebuffer driver is in recent kernels (2.6.15), marked as experimental. A test on a X20 was yet unsuccessful though.
